Issue No. 1 | It’s Time to Bloom

For a long time, I believed motherhood and creativity were at odds with each other.

I became a mom at only nineteen years old, and for the next three decades my life was beautifully full of raising children, caring for my family, and showing up for the people I loved. Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that creativity was something I would return to later—when life settled down, when I had more time, when everyone needed me a little less.

I saw motherhood as the reason I couldn’t create. Now I realize it was the very reason I can.

Every season of motherhood—the joy, the heartbreak, the ordinary moments, the lessons in patience, resilience, wonder and love—became the palette from which I paint today. Those years didn’t steal my creativity. They slowly and quietly filled it.

I’ve come to believe that motherhood is one of the greatest creative endeavors there is. It asks us to imagine, adapt, problem-solve, nurture, sacrifice, and love in ways we never thought possible.

But I’ve also learned something equally important: While caring for others is beautiful, we can’t afford to completely lose ourselves in the process.

Creativity isn’t a luxury reserved for people with endless free time. It’s an essential part of what makes us feel alive. It doesn’t always require hours in a studio. Sometimes it looks like fifteen quiet minutes with a journal, planting flowers in the garden, baking bread, writing a poem, rearranging a room, or picking up a paintbrush after everyone else has gone to bed.

Small, consistent moments matter. Those little acts become the way we remember who we really are.

For me, this feels like a season of blooming. Not because life suddenly became easier, but because I’ve finally given myself permission to grow.

I’m building an art career at almost fifty, creating work that feels deeply honest , and learning to trust my own creative voice. It’s exciting, a little scary, and incredibly life-giving.

My hope is that BLOOM becomes more than a newsletter about art. I hope it’s a place that reminds you to nurture the creative parts of yourself, wherever you are in your own season of life.

Whether you’re an artist, a gardener, a writer, a mother, or simply someone longing to make space for beauty again…

I’m so glad you’re here.

Let’s bloom together!

With gratitude,

Tonia

This Month’s Bloom

Find fifteen minutes to create something with no expectation for perfection. Paint. Write. Plant flowers. Bake. Rearrange a bookshelf. Sing. The goal isn’t productivity—it’s remembering that creativity is already part of who you are.
